Course Overview:
Art major seminar is seminar and critique class for all junior and senior art majors. The seminar portion consists of class discussions of assigned readings and visiting artist lectures. The critique portion is a group exploration and analysis of student works in progress. Students are required to produce independent art projects for critique, as well as a series of response papers to readings, lectures and visiting artists. This class will be taught once a year by rotating members of the studio art faculty.
Course Goals:
Talk about art with your fellow art majors.
Develop work outside of classroom assignments.
Prepare for senior show.
Develop ability to critique and be critiqued.
Learn about contemporary art.
Course Requirements:
Completion of assigned readings and response papers on time
Active Participation in classroom discussions and critiques
Miscellaneous details:
Attendance: Consistent attendance is absolutely crucial in order to do well in this course. Promptness is also extremely important; all instruction is given at the beginning of the class period and will not be repeated for late students. THREE or more absences will result in the final grade being lowered one full letter grade. Consistent tardiness will also be detrimental to the final grade, with three lates counting as an absence.
Incompletes: No incompletes without confirmed extraordinary circumstances. Please consult the registrar for the definition of extraordinary circumstances.
